Graham, N.C. 鈥� 人兽性交 (ACC) proudly announces that student Arthur Felton has received the highly competitive Goodnight Transfer Scholars Program award at North Carolina State University, one of the state's top transfer scholarships.
Felton, pursuing dual Associate degrees in Science and Engineering at ACC, was chosen through a rigorous statewide application process. The scholarship offers both financial support and valuable connections with mentors, advisors, and peers who have experienced the transfer journey.
For Felton, the path to this milestone did not begin with a traditional college journey. He enrolled at 人兽性交 out of financial necessity, supporting himself independently and seeking an affordable, local option that would allow him to adapt to the demands of adult life while pursuing his education.
鈥淏eing someone independent financially, I was supporting myself. And so ACC opened that door,鈥� Felton said. 鈥淚t was much more affordable than university. It was an easier path for me to kind of adapt to being an adult and all the extra things that come along with that.鈥�
What began as a practical decision quickly became something much greater. Felton soon discovered that ACC offered far more than classroom instruction 鈥� it offered community, mentorship, and opportunity.
Felton learned about the Goodnight Transfer Scholars Program during a C3 transfer student orientation, where a previous scholarship recipient shared her experience and encouraged incoming students to stay focused, get involved, and position themselves as strong candidates. He took that advice seriously.
When the invitation to apply finally arrived, Felton entered a competitive process that spanned multiple rounds. He believes two things set him apart: his deep involvement on campus and his entrepreneurial spirit.
Since his junior year of high school, Felton has co-owned and operated a detailing business, a venture that has now been running for nearly four years. That experience, he said, taught him communication, digital marketing, and a work ethic that translated directly into his academic and campus life.
鈥淚 was pushing for more change, even on campus,鈥� Felton said. 鈥淭he detailing business I started with my partner well over three years ago, and I鈥檝e just been putting in the work behind the scenes with that. Those things pushed me to another level that I was able to translate into the classroom and into campus initiatives.鈥�
When the call finally came notifying him of his selection, Felton did not answer; he was in the middle of a campus speech. He listened to the voicemail in his car later and sat with the news quietly for hours before the full weight of it settled in.
鈥淚t didn鈥檛 really hit me for a few hours that I had actually accomplished that,鈥� he said. 鈥淚 think the first person I called was my mom because she had been asking a lot of updates about the scholarship 鈥� and the emotions really didn鈥檛 hit me for another day or two.鈥�
When they did, the moment carried the weight of everything he had worked for.
鈥淚 remember going into this scholarship package and accepting it, and it鈥檚 like the work that I put into this point has paid off,鈥� Felton said. 鈥淚 know that the journey is not done yet, but this is like a huge stepping stone to reaching the goals that I want to reach. Goodnight Scholars will work as a catalyst in the same way Alamance Community College did.鈥�
For Felton, the scholarship is more than a personal achievement; it is a statement about what is possible for community college students.
鈥淚 think community college opens the door for so many things,鈥� he said. 鈥淵ou save a lot of money, you get more access to advisors, it is a smaller campus but a stronger community in a lot of ways, and then it allows you to build your resume and smoothly transfer into university.鈥�
He is passionate about sharing that message with others who may doubt whether opportunities of this magnitude are within their reach.
鈥淕et involved. That would be the first thing I would say,鈥� Felton advised current ACC students. 鈥淚t can be anything you鈥檙e interested in 鈥� one club, the honors program, student government. You鈥檙e going to meet people who鈥檝e already been through a lot of steps. You don鈥檛 always have to reinvent the wheel. Alamance has many resources to make that possible. I鈥檓 a living testament of it.鈥�
